Sabrina the Teenage Witch, an Archie character that became central to a beloved '90s sitcom, was given a makeover into The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, where the youngster rises through the ranks and even faces off with the actual devil. Now it involves demons, ghosts, cults and multiple serial killers (plus at least one musical episode per season). Riverdale, based on the family-friendly Archie comic book series, was turned into a film-noir-style murder mystery. Less American Horror Story-style, 'scream at the telly'-style gorefests, Roberto instead made a career out of giving a fresh spin on teen classics, with slashers and horror often making the way into the weird and wonderful world he creates. This isn't an accident – the writer was one of many who found solace in horror when he was young, confused, and yet to come out as gay. Question: What's your favourite scary movie? Are you a psychological thriller fan? Perhaps you could be tempted by a good old-fashioned slasher? Maybe fantasy horror may more be your thing, or do you stick to classics like The Omen?Įither way, you'd probably be a fan of Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, whose work across the last 10 years has breathed new life into TV horror genres, with an undeniably fun and campy twist.
